Easy DIY Projects to Take on During Quarantine

If you haven’t already heard, Michigan’s stay at home order was extended until June 12th—and that means we’ll all be spending a little more time indoors. If you’re starting to feel stir crazy, now is a fantastic time to start taking on a few DIY projects around the house. They don’t have to be expensive or time-consuming, either!

4 Easy and Cost-Effective DIY Projects That Anyone Can Do

Even if you aren’t super handy, upgrading your home is actually easier than you might think. Taking on a few projects is also a great way to boost your property value and use your time productively. Here are a few simple updates that can make a huge difference, especially if you plan on selling in the future.

Add a new coat of paint

When was the last time you cracked open a can of paint and added a splash of color to your home? Painting a room might seem hard, but if you have time, patience, and the right supplies, it’s actually a breeze.

Although hardware stores remain open here in Michigan, you can actually order paint, primer, and rollers online from most major retailers. And if you aren’t ready to commit to just one color, try buying a few small samples and testing them out before making a decision.

Upgrade your landscaping

There’s something truly magical about blossoming flowers and verdant green lawns during spring. If your yard could use a little extra love, sprucing up your landscaping could help you create your own slice of outdoor paradise…even if you don’t have a green thumb.

Before you start buying your plants, do some research to see what will grow well in your area. It’s important to consider how much sun your yard gets every day, as well as water and maintenance requirements. While you’re at it, now is also a great time to fertilize your lawn and take care of any brown spots before summer.

Install smart home tech

Smart lock, and other DIY projects

Smart home tech can seriously boost your home’s value, and it can also make your day-to-day life so much easier. You don’t have to be a DIY expert to install the latest technology, either. In fact, most simple upgrades only take about an hour to set up!

If you’re a novice DIYer, try starting with a smart doorbell or wifi plugs. These systems often require only a few tools for installation, and they’re not super expensive. Other upgrades, such as smart home hubs or wireless security systems, may take a bit more effort, but they’re totally worth it!

Update fixtures and hardware

Faucet, and other DIY projects

Take a peek at your sinks, drawer pulls, and light fixtures. Are they looking a little dated? If so, it’s time to bring them into the new decade! Updating your fixtures and hardware is an easy way to modernize your decor, and you won’t have to spend a lot of money, either.

Replacing drawer pulls is perhaps the simplest fix, and all it takes is a screwdriver and a little patience. If you have a bit more experience with DIY projects, try adding some new pendant lights in your kitchen or refreshing your bathroom sink with a new faucet.
